“…For how long shall we make red
A history still pregnant
With the unborn dead?
Guns, bombs, and protests are the dialects
of our confusion. Who is worthy
to take helm and steer our nation?
Away from the litter of murdered truths?
Of forked tongues in a constitution of fools.
Who can live in a land where deception rules? …”
- Sample cut from “Promise The Land” of the volume “METROPOLITAN BURGER” page 16 in the book HEARTBEAT CITY: PROMETRY (2000-2007) By Sheryl S. Raros, A.N.T. Maverick Polymedia Services.
“…We pronounce it “Hi(gh)-men”
In English, rhymes with golden,
Oven, women, and Heaven.
Has curious allusions to
“Haaay, men!”, which reminds me
Of a commercial I once saw.
Must have been for Close-up,
With matching Smile. Or maybe
It was an ad for bouncy hair, shiny
Hair, guaranteed to give satisfaction.
Vitamin B, deep penetration.
For external use only…”
- Sample cut from “Hymeneutics” of the volume “BOOTS AND HEELS” page 30 in the book HEARTBEAT CITY: PROMETRY (2000-2007) By Sheryl S. Raros, A.N.T. Maverick Polymedia Services.
“…God paints in light and lava. Clouds, seas, and bodies.
Rhythm and rhyme are in every branch and twig of a tree.
In the tendrils of a living vein. In the beating wings
of an aorta. He breathes rain and lightning between
the twin faces of a blue ocean and the everlasting sky.
He speaks to us in the kiss of still air or the mighty fist
of a windstorm. He touches us with those hands and
faces of lovers being born; In that tender confusion of
arms and legs, as we rock and kiss and hold each other to
the sound of misery knocking on our front door…”
- Sample cut from “State Of Grace” of the volume “THE CLOUD SEEDERS” page 52 in the book HEARTBEAT CITY: PROMETRY (2000-2007) By Sheryl S. Raros, A.N.T. Maverick Polymedia Services.
“…Once upon a time
Was an abominable crime
That all the policemen know
But they let the mayor’s son go
The judge didn’t lift a finger
He wanted to stay in power
Local reporters dare not write
The wrong from right
The witness fled to save his life
After they took care of his wife…”
- Sample cut from “Old Town” of the volume “THE COURT JESTER” page 55 in the book HEARTBEAT CITY: PROMETRY (2000-2007) By Sheryl S. Raros, A.N.T. Maverick Polymedia Services.
“…He tried to call her back
She had already lost her phone
He assumed she was happy
She thought he was just busy
They danced around each other
Like the sun and the moon
Distant though not at war
A lost wish for every shooting star
The daydreaming of where and when
Could they see each other again
The nights they both tossed and turned
Between memory and fantasy
Conversations replayed and
Even new ones were made
Long and tender, they held each other
In their secret world …”

IDENTITY
There, at the top of a mountain grew the most beautiful wild flowers in the world. Unseen, unsought, and unknown. They bloomed.
BABYLINGUA
When it comes to money, everyone speaks the same language.
CHANGE
The world is changing. Every hour, every minute, every second, everyday…Are you?
DÉJÀ VU
If past is past and we walk around it as if it doesn’t or shouldn’t matter, where then does it get its power to hurt our future? Up until we learn from it, our past will continue to be our future like a history doomed to repeat itself.
DESTINY
It is one thing to say “Things happen and I just let them happen” and another thing to say, “Things happen but I will choose anyway.” There is a big difference in having free will and the will to be free.
HIDDEN TREASURES
We can find more truth in a single dream compared to hundreds of memories.
NAME-CALLING
Men gave names to all the animals. It would be an insult if the animal could name the man.
AMBITION
It’s the little cages that dare us to paw for bigger dreams.
PEDESTAL
Don’t put someone you love on a pedestal. You can’t play tennis with the umpire.
SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET
How do you hide the truth? Secrets, like sweat—get secreted.
- Sample prose cuts from the volume “MORSEL” page 82 in the book HEARTBEAT CITY: PROMETRY (2000-2007) By Sheryl S. Raros, A.N.T. Maverick Polymedia Services. The word Prometry did not exist as a literary term until October 1999. I coined it from Prose + Poetry = Prometry and the word first appears at the back cover of my 1st book RED COFFEE: A Collection of Romantic Poetry 1992-1999 (Giraffe Books). Then, the term reappears in my 2nd book (copyright 2005) first released on December 2007. It was then launched at UPLB on January 17, 2008 and its first book tour was at UPD on February 29, 2008.
